Chelsea is filled with pride after their victory over Real Betis in the Conference League final. Thanks to this victory, the London club has now won all European trophies.
Chelsea seemed to be facing a difficult evening in Wroclaw, Poland, on Wednesday. The team was down 0-1 at halftime, but turned the game around in the second half with goals from Enzo Fernández, Nicolas Jackson, Jadon Sancho, and Moisés Caicedo (4-1).
Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca praised his team’s resilience after the match. “I was frustrated with the first half and how we approached the game, but in the second half we were much better and deserved to win,” said the Italian.
Maresca was not surprised by his team’s weaker first half performance. The coach pointed out that Chelsea had secured Champions League football last Sunday against Nottingham Forest, achieving their main goal of the season.
“I saw this coming,” said Maresca. “The joy after the match with Forest was a bit too much. Moreover, we played on Sunday and Betis had already played on Friday. There was definitely fatigue. That’s why I’m glad we pulled this off anyway.”
Chelsea crowned Conference League winner
Thanks to this victory, Chelsea became the fourth-ever winner of the Conference League, after AS Roma (2022), West Ham United (2023), and Olympiacos (2024).
The London club is also the first club ever to have won all European trophies. Chelsea has won the Champions League twice (2012 and 2021), the Europa League twice (2013 and 2019), the European Super Cup twice (1999 and 2022), and the European Cup II twice (1971 and 1998).
“The fact that we are the first club to have won all European trophies fills us with immense pride. When I look at the supporters, I see that it means so much to them. We have achieved everything we wanted to achieve this season,” said Chelsea defender Levi Collwill after the match.
Captain Reece James is especially pleased that Chelsea lived up to their favorite status in the Conference League this season. The London club was by far the biggest club participating in the third club tournament in Europe.
“We had to win this tournament. Fortunately, we can get back to work in the Champions League next year.”
