Streets Zandvoort flooded by Hoosbui, lightning in the house in Nieuwkoop

The thunderstorms for which code yellow was issued for the entire country on Monday led to problems in several places. However, the inconvenience of the showers seems relatively minor. Few incidents are reported. Code yellow has now been lifted.

In Nieuwkoop, lightning struck the roof of a terraced house around 5:30 PM, writes Omroep West. Damage has occurred to both the inside and outside of the South Holland home. The attic of the house was full of smoke after the lightning strike.

In Zandvoort, the heavy showers caused some streets in the center to be flooded. In some places, the water was between 40 and 50 centimeters high. According to NH Nieuws, all the water has now been pumped away, but the streets still smell of sewage. This is due to the overflowing manholes.

The water reservoir is full due to the excessive rainfall. The municipality has opened the emergency reservoir on the Zandvoort circuit to collect the water. Police and fire brigade are working to pump the water away.

In Hillegom, South Holland, the severe weather caused flooding at one house. The water reportedly flowed inside during a downpour. It was the only house on the street with this problem.

Apart from a few incidents, the inconvenience caused by the showers appears to have been limited. The KNMI had issued code yellow for the entire country until 10:00 PM on Monday. Precipitation has fallen in many places. The showers could be accompanied by hail and gusts of wind up to 60 kilometers per hour.
