Sergio Ramos gives Monterrey tie against Inter at World Cup for clubs

Internazionale drew 1-1 against Monterrey on Tuesday at the Club World Cup. Sergio Ramos scored the only goal for the Mexican club.

Stefan de Vrij remained on the bench for the entire match in Pasadena, while Denzel Dumfries was left out of the squad by coach Cristian Chivu. According to Italian media, the Dutch international was injured earlier this week during training.

Without the two Dutch players, Inter fell behind in the 25th minute due to a goal from Ramos. The former Real Madrid icon headed the ball from a corner beyond the reach of goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

On the stroke of halftime, Lautaro Martínez equalized for Inter. He was able to tap in after a cleverly executed free kick.

Monterrey was close to taking the lead again in the 64th minute, but Sergio Canales’ shot hit the post. Moments later, Martínez had the victory on his boot, but he shot wildly over from close range.

It was Inter’s first match at the Club World Cup and also their first match since the Champions League final. The club from Milan lost 5-0 to Paris Saint-Germain in that match over two weeks ago. It was also Chivu’s first match as coach. He took over from Simone Inzaghi, who moved to Saudi Arabian Al Hilal.
