Rain leads to busy evening rush hour with more than 1,100 kilometers of traffic jams

It is unexpectedly busy on the road on Tuesday due to rain. There is currently more than 480 kilometers of traffic jam during the evening rush hour, but at its peak there was more than 1,100 kilometers, reports the ANWB.

Road users should still take into account delays on several routes. For example, it is busy on the A12 between Driebergen and Nieuwegein and on the A15, where an accident has occurred near Tiel.

It is also busy on the A2 and the A27 towards the south. “These are often busy roads, but the traffic jams are now a lot longer than normal,” reports the ANWB.

“It has everything to do with the bad weather,” says a spokesperson to NU.nl. But he admits that he actually expected this crowd on Wednesday. “Tomorrow evening many people will go away for a weekend because of Ascension Day, so there will also be a lot of traffic jams then.”

The spokesperson indicates that the number of accidents is not higher than normal. “Because of the crowds and the weather, people drive slower, which often results in fewer accidents.”
