Gaaei gives an assist to Zegen Denmark on Ukraine in European Championships Juniors

Denmark won their first group match of the European Under-21 Championship against Ukraine with 3-2 on Thursday. The Danes fought their way past the Ukrainians in the last ten minutes. Ajax player Anton Gaaei provided the assist for Denmark’s 1-1.

Ukraine took the lead after twenty minutes in the Tatran Stadion in Slovakian Presov. Nazar Voloshyn slid in a cross from the right at the far post.

In the second half, Denmark equalized. Gaaei broke through on the right side and passed the ball towards Clement Bischoff. Bischoff cut out his direct opponent, after which he shot into the near corner.

The real spectacle followed in the last quarter of an hour. Maksim Bragaru put Ukraine ahead again, but within three minutes William Bøving equalized.

Less than four minutes later, William Osula scored the winning goal for Denmark. His goal was initially disallowed for offside, but the VAR reversed that decision.

Denmark wins the first match in Group D, which also includes Jong Oranje and Finland. These two teams will meet on Thursday at 9:00 PM. The remaining matches in this group are scheduled for Sunday and Wednesday.
