Captain Bruno Martins Indi leaves AZ after five seasons on a free transfer. The 33-year-old defender looks back on his time with the number five of the Eredivisie with a good feeling.
Martins Indi played for AZ from 2020, who initially rented him from Stoke City and then took him over permanently. He previously played for Feyenoord and FC Porto. It is unknown where the veteran will continue his career.
“When I decided to come to AZ, I had two goals. Firstly, I wanted to win a prize with AZ. Everyone knows how unfortunately that went. That hurt a lot,” Martins Indi refers on Monday on the AZ site to the lost cup final against Go Ahead Eagles.
“Secondly, I wanted to reach the Dutch national team again and I am proud that I succeeded,” continues Martins Indi, who played two international matches in the service of AZ in 2022. “I conclude my adventure at AZ with a smile.”
Director of football affairs Max Huiberts praises the impact of Martins Indi at AZ. “Bruno is the personification of a top professional. In addition, he also had an eye for the development of his fellow players. He made time and paid attention to stimulate all players for the benefit of their development.”
Martins Indi played a total of 126 matches for AZ. The defender regularly struggled with injuries during his time with the Eredivisionist. Last season, the 36-time international was mainly a reserve at AZ, which secured European football at the expense of FC Twente on Sunday.
