The bags of Haribo sweets that contain cannabis were all found in the Eastern Netherlands. This confirms the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). Several people were unwell after they had eaten from the sweets.
The case came to light when a family from Twente called in the police after some children from the family had fallen ill. The police found out with a quick test that it was cannabis and signaled the NVWA.
The NVWA bought bags of candy in several stores. Three bags that the supervisor bought in the Eastern Netherlands contained traces of cannabis, says a spokesperson for the body. The NVWA did not find infected bags in other parts of the country.
The spokesperson cannot say in which cities or villages the infected bags were found exactly. “But the advice not to eat the sweets applies everywhere.” It concerns kilo bags from Happy Cola F! ZZ with an expiration date until January 2026. The product code is L341-4002307906. As a precaution, Haribo retrieves the entire stock.
According to the NVWA spokesperson, there were mainly children and at least one adult became sick after eating the sweets. It is not clear how many people are involved. The police are still investigating how the cannabis could end up in the candy bags.
