Formula 2

Richard Verschoor lost the lead in Formula 2 at the Belgian Grand Prix. The Dutchman finished nineteenth at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, earning no points and dropping to second place in the standings.

The Irishman Alex Dunne won the race and passed Verschoor in the championship standings. The difference between Verschoor and Dunne is 15 points with five races to go.

The 24-year-old Verschoor had a difficult weekend in the soaking wet Belgium. During the sprint race on Saturday, he already dropped out after one lap. He did manage to finish Sunday’s race despite the heavy rainfall.

At the start of the race it was still dry, but after a few laps it started to rain. Verschoor had a good start from 11th place. As the rainfall worsened, he dropped back to nineteenth place. Three other drivers ended up off the track due to the harsh weather conditions.

The Formula 2 season still has five races. Verschoor and his colleagues will travel to Budapest next weekend. Verschoor has a clear goal this season to become champion and has already won three of the nine races.
