The French police found the body of an 80-year-old woman from Alphen aan den Rijn on Wednesday. The woman had been missing for several days along with her 83-year-old husband.
The search for the man continues, reports the organization Namens de Familie on Thursday. French police say the woman likely did not die as a result of a crime.
The man and woman were last seen on Friday in Saint-Dizier. That is in northern France, about 150 kilometers below the Belgian border.
The couple was on their way to their second home in the French village of Planchez, which is near Dijon. According to French police, they went missing in the area between Saint-Dizier and Planchez.
It is not known where the woman was found. That is still being kept secret at the request of the French authorities, says a spokesperson for Namens de Familie.
