13 dead and 23 girls missing due to bad weather and floods in Texas

Heavy rainfall and flooding have claimed the lives of at least thirteen residents of Texas. In addition, 23 girls who were at camp in the American state went missing.

Texas is currently being ravaged by severe thunderstorms and rainfall. As a result, deadly floods occurred along the Guadalupe River in the south of the state on Friday.

Local authorities reported Friday that the heavy floods occurred just before sunrise. They arose so quickly that there was barely time to warn citizens to evacuate. So far, thirteen deaths have been reported in the area.

Later in the day, it was announced that at least 23 girls who were at summer camp were missing. That camp was on the banks of the Guadalupe River, where the water level rose eight meters within 45 minutes on the night of Thursday to Friday.

Emergency services are searching for the missing girls with fourteen helicopters and dozens of drones. Hundreds of rescuers have arrived on the scene to provide assistance.

The expectation is that it will continue to rain in Texas in the coming period. That could lead to new floods in the next 24 to 48 hours, is the expectation.
