With contract extension, Lamine Yamal sets up a successful year with Barcelona

Lamine Yamal extended his contract with FC Barcelona on Tuesday. The seventeen-year-old top talent is now tied to Catalonia until the summer of 2031.

Yamal had a contract until the summer of 2026 and has now signed for five years. In July 2031, the attacker will be 24 years old.

The new contract will officially take effect on July 13. Yamal will celebrate his eighteenth birthday then. Minors are not allowed to sign contracts that run for more than three years.

Yamal made his debut in FC Barcelona’s first team in April 2023 at the age of fifteen. Since then, he has played 106 matches for the club. In those, he accounted for 25 goals and 34 assists.

This season, Yamal had a large share in a successful season for Barcelona with eighteen goals, which won the Spanish Super Cup, cup and national title. Only in the Champions League it did not work out. Barça was eliminated in the semi-finals by Internazionale.

Recently, coach Hansi Flick (until 2027) and attacker Raphinha (until 2028) also extended their contracts. FC Barcelona reportedly also wants to break open and extend Frenkie de Jong’s contract. His contract expires in mid-2026.
