Marianne Vos lost the yellow jersey in the Tour de France Femmes on Sunday. The Dutch rider was surprised in the second stage by 41-year-old Mavi García, who won the stage. Kimberley Le Court is the new leader.
García rode away from a depleted peloton 11 kilometers from the end. Because the favorites mainly looked at each other on the way to a steep final hill and Lorena Wiebes and Vos started the sprint too late, the 41-year-old Spaniard was able to win the stage. Wiebes did finish in second place.
Behind Wiebes, Le Court finished third, bringing her level on time with yellow jersey wearer Vos in the general classification. Because Le Court recorded better classifications in total in the first two stages than Vos, she is the new leader in the Tour.
Vos therefore lost the lead in the Tour de France Femmes after only one day. The best Dutch cyclist of all time won the opening stage to Plumelec on Saturday after a beautiful sprint on a steep final hill.
