Raymond van Barneveld started the Dutch Darts Championship in Rosmalen on Friday with a difficult victory. The player from The Hague won the Dutch match against Jerry Hendriks: 6-5.

Van Barneveld recovered from an early break deficit and took a 4-2 lead. But Hendriks, who participated in a PDC tournament for the first time since 2019, fought back to 5-5. In the deciding leg, ‘Barney’ still came out on top.

Besides Van Barneveld, two other Dutch players qualified for the second round of the Dutch Darts Championship. Wessel Nijman decided the Dutch match against Berry van Peer in his favor (6-5) and Jeffrey Sparidaans surprised Andrew Gilding (6-2).

For Gian van Veen, Jeffrey de Zwaan, Niels Zonneveld, Maik Kuivenhoven and Wesley Plaisier, the curtain fell in the first round. Dirk van Duijvenbode and Jermaine Wattimena will appear on the stage later in the evening.

Michael van Gerwen and Danny Noppert do not have to take action in the first round thanks to their seeded status. They will start the tournament on Saturday. Van Gerwen meets Mickey Mansell and Noppert will face Mario Vandenbogaerde.

The Dutch Darts Championship is part of the European Tour. The tournament has never had a Dutch winner. Last year Josh Rock was the strongest in Rosmalen.
