Up to 50 hours of community service for minors after open violence at Rellen Scheveningen

Four minors were sentenced on Friday to community service of forty to fifty hours for public violence against the police. According to the Public Prosecution Service, they were involved in the major riots in Scheveningen on May 1.

The age and personal circumstances of the minors were taken into account when determining the sentences. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) demanded community service of eighty to one hundred hours.

The suspects were fifteen, sixteen, and seventeen years old at the time of the riots. They can be seen in camera footage, which, according to the Public Prosecution Service, shows that they contributed to the violence. The juvenile judge convicted four of the five suspects and acquitted the fifth suspect.

On May 1, hundreds of young people near the Kurhaus in Scheveningen clashed with each other and with the police. They pelted the mobile unit with stones, bicycles, and glassware, causing damage.

In the investigation into the riots in Scheveningen, ten suspects have been arrested so far. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the investigation to arrest more suspects is still in full swing.
