United States Despite missed penalty kick PSV player Tillman on Gold Cup

The United States reached the semi-finals of the Gold Cup on Sunday evening despite a missed penalty by Malik Tillman. After 2-2 in regular time against Costa Rica, the Americans were stronger in the penalty shootout.

Costa Rica had a 0-1 lead in the US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis when Tillman missed a penalty in the 37th minute. The PSV player, coveted by Bayer Leverkusen, shot the ball low against the post. Via Diego Luna and Max Arfsten, the US then took a 2-1 lead, after which Alonso Martinez made it 2-2 for Costa Rica.

In the penalty shootout that had to bring the decision, Tillman was accurate. Andy Rojas missed for Costa Rica, after which Damion Downs scored and helped the Americans to the next round.

The US will face Guatemala in the semi-finals. The other semi-final is between Mexico and Honduras.

It will therefore be a while before Tillman starts preparing for the new season, and it does not seem likely that this will be at PSV.

PSV starts preparation today

The 23-year-old Tillman seems to be well on his way to Bayer Leverkusen, the new club of trainer Erik ten Hag. Leverkusen is reportedly prepared to put an amount of 40 million euros on the table for the midfielder.

Tillman had an important part in PSV’s national title last season. He was also accurate in the championship match against Sparta.

PSV’s selection will complete the first training session of the new season today, although many players are missing in addition to Tillman because they have a longer vacation due to international obligations. Ryan Flamingo and Noa Lang are also not present.
