Schaars is head coach Jong PSV after pilot and Dispensation KNVB

Stijn Schaars will be the coach of Jong PSV next season. The former midfielder does not yet have the required UEFA Pro diploma, but after an official request from the Eindhoven club, he has been granted dispensation by the KNVB.

Schaars, who succeeds Alfons Groenendijk, will be assisted by Jürgen Dirkx with the reserves of the national champion. He does have the required papers.

“I am very grateful to both PSV and the KNVB for this opportunity and I am very much looking forward to getting started. In recent years I have already gained a lot of experience as a trainer, at PSV under 16, under 17, under 18 and of course as assistant to Peter Bosz. This feels like the perfect next step,” says the 41-year-old Schaars on the club site.

“From the KNVB this is a pilot, which we are very happy with,” says director of football affairs Earnest Stewart about the promotion of Schaars. “In the future, we would like to see this as policy for Jong teams that play in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. At PSV we are fully engaged in training players, but we also think this is an excellent way to train coaches.”

24-time international Schaars ended his career in 2019 at sc Heerenveen. He soon started working in the youth academy of PSV, where he played from 2013 to 2016.

Schaars will be in charge of the group on Monday morning at the number eighteen of last season.
