Russia and Ukraine exchanged another 307 prisoners on Saturday. The countries already exchanged 390 prisoners on Friday. This is the largest exchange since the beginning of the war.
“Another 307 Ukrainian soldiers are home,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky writes on X.
“Today is the second day of the ‘thousand for thousand’ deal that we negotiated in Turkey. In these two days, 697 people have been brought home. We expect the process to continue tomorrow.”
According to Zelensky, soldiers and border guards, among others, were released today. According to the Ukrainian president, the goal is to “bring everyone back from Russian captivity.”
The Russian Ministry of Defense also reported on Saturday that 307 prisoners of war had been handed over. The Kremlin says the exchange is continuing. The countries made agreements last week in Istanbul about the huge prisoner exchange. But besides that exchange, little was achieved during the first direct negotiations between the two countries.
