On Thursday evening, two Dutch people aged 27 and 28 were arrested in Geel, Belgium after the find of a drug lab in an abandoned farm. Amfetamine, better known as Speed, was produced in the lab.
The two suspects were arrested on suspicion of involvement in producing and distributing drugs. They were interrogated immediately after their arrest. The federal police tracked down the men after an anonymous tip. Upon entering, a strong, chemical scent was immediately noticed. In the barn next to the living area, the police found the men among countless barrels, water bottles, boxes, gas bottles and several boilers.
“The Clan Lab Response Unit (Cru) of the federal police conducted an investigation on the spot and concluded that amphetamines were produced in the lab and that a large amount of precursors were stored,” the Antwerp public prosecutor reports. Precursors are chemical raw materials used for making synthetic drugs such as amphetamine.
Because it was dangerous substances, the police called in civil protection to safely remove the materials. The location was then further investigated.
