Two dead in shelling employees Israeli embassy in Washington

Two people were killed in a shooting at the Jewish Museum in Washington on Wednesday evening (local time). At least one of the victims is an employee of the Israeli embassy, according to several American media reports. It is believed to be a targeted attack.

The victims are said to be a man and a woman who had attended an event at the museum, according to NBC News and CBS News, citing sources involved in the investigation. The man and woman were shot as they left the museum.

The US Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, writes on X that both victims worked at the Israeli embassy. Whether that is actually the case is still unclear. The police have not yet announced anything about the identities of the victims. Some American media, including CBS News, say it is a diplomat and his partner.

Several sources say it was a targeted attack. The perpetrator is said to have shouted “Free Palestine” before the shooting. The police are said to have arrested the perpetrator.

The authorities will hold a press conference later today with more information.
