In a dispute in a home in Hoofddorp where police intervened, two people died on Wednesday. The police shot during the incident. Two officers were injured and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.
Around 6:05 AM, police received a report of a dispute in a home on the Fanny Blankers-Koenlaan in Hoofddorp. Ten minutes later, officers found two people there who were involved in a violent incident. Both have died.
One person died as a result of the stabbing incident itself, says a spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service (OM) North Holland.
The death of the second person is part of the investigation by the National Criminal Investigation Department (Rijksrecherche). This means that the deployment of the police may have played a role, but the Public Prosecution Service cannot confirm this.
If the police have used violence and people are seriously injured or die, it is standard procedure for the National Criminal Investigation Department to be involved.
A spokesperson for the North Holland police also could not provide details about the police deployment due to the ongoing investigation by the National Criminal Investigation Department. He did indicate that “our deployment played a role.”
Reason for Dispute Not Yet Clear
Two officers were also injured during the intervention. They were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The reason for the dispute is not clear. “We arrive after the call in a situation where we have to take action,” the spokesperson says. He cannot say whether anyone other than the two deceased and the officers were involved in the incident.
Forensic investigation is being carried out in and around the home. The street is closed off and many emergency services are present. Some bus lines are being diverted.
