Trainer Inzaghi seems to exchange Inter after Lost CL-final for oil dollars

Trainer Simone Inzaghi has resigned from Internazionale shortly after the lost Champions League final. According to Italian media, the coach has succumbed to the petrodollars from Saudi Arabia.

Even before the hopelessly lost final against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday (5-0), there were rumors that the 49-year-old Inzaghi would leave Internationale. The coach neither denied nor confirmed the news, but three days after the final, his departure is still a fact.

A lucrative offer from the Saudi club Al Hilal is said to be the reason for the break. According to Italian media, Inzaghi can earn as much as 26 million euros net per year there. That is reportedly five times as much as he does now at Inter.

At Al Hilal, the number two of the past Saudi Pro League season, some European top players are under contract, such as João Cancelo (ex-Manchester City), Rúben Neves (ex-Wolves), Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (ex-Lazio) and Aleksandar Mitrovic (ex-Fulham). Al Hilal is also participating in the upcoming Club World Cup.

Inzaghi was a coach in Milan for four years and celebrated the necessary successes with Inter. Last year the club became national champion. In addition, Inzaghi reached the Champions League final twice (2023 and 2025) and won the Italian Cup twice with Inter. Last season, Inter had to leave the title to Napoli.

Cesc Fàbregas (Como) and Roberto De Zerbi (Olympique Marseille) are, according to Italian media, the main candidates to succeed Inzaghi at Inter, where Orange internationals Denzel Dumfries and Stefan de Vrij are under contract. Inter wants to have a new coach before the Club World Cup.
