Tom Waes receives a three-month driving ban, a fine, and an alcohol interlock. The Flemish presenter and actor must also retake a driving test. Waes caused a car accident in November while under the influence of alcohol.
The fine is almost 2,560 euros. Waes will also have an alcohol interlock in his car for a year. This is a lock on the car that can only be unlocked by means of a breath test.
The police judge in Antwerp states that Waes has not learned from previous convictions. His punishment is slightly lower than the public prosecutor’s demand: a driving ban of 3.5 months and a fine of 2960 euros.
Waes collided with an arrow truck near the Kennedytunnel in Antwerp on the night of Friday, November 29 to Saturday, November 30. The presenter suffered a severe head wound, broken ribs, and a broken hip in the accident. The driver of the arrow truck was slightly injured.
