Theater Oostpool wins Cultuurfonds prize and receives 100,000 euros

Theater Oostpool has won the Cultuurfonds Prijs (Culture Fund Prize) on Monday. The award comes with a sum of 100,000 euros. The presentation will take place on November 7.

“Theater Oostpool has renewed itself in the past five years with a unique and polyphonic artistic team of six individual theater makers, who together create work for a large, broad and young audience,” says director of the Cultuurfonds Cathelijne Broers in a statement.

According to Broers, the company consists of “young makers with diverse artistic signatures, who are considered among the most promising voices in the theater field.”

Theater Oostpool is a theater company based in Arnhem, founded in 1953. Since June 1, 2021, Daria Bukvic has been the artistic director of the company that performs throughout the country. Bukvic forms the artistic team together with Char Li Chung, Jan Hulst, Kasper Tarenskeen, Florian Myjer and Priscilla Vaudelle. In addition to the directors, dramaturges Fanne Boland and Madelon Kooijman are also part of the artistic team.

Since 2010, the Cultuurfonds has presented the prize to theater companies, artists and nature organizations with “a story that matters.” The fund, formerly known as Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds, announced in 2023 that it would change its name. This decision followed the finding that the prince had been a member of Adolf Hitler’s party NSDAP.
