Live Middle East Israël reports new Iranian rocket attack despite file

The Times of Israel reports that at least one ballistic missile was fired by Iran at Israel. That missile was most likely intercepted by Israeli air defenses, the newspaper reports. There are no reports of damage or injuries.

Israel strikes back: Defense Minister Israel Katz now reports that he has ordered the army to respond “forcefully” to Iran’s “violation of the ceasefire.” Katz says the army is carrying out attacks on targets in “the heart of Tehran.”

Iran has not yet officially confirmed that it has agreed to the ceasefire. Reuters now reports that the Iranian security top is about to issue a statement about “stopping the war.”

It remains to be seen what the alleged Iranian missile attack on Israel means. Earlier, Israel said it would not accept violations of the ceasefire.

The Israeli army now reports that residents can leave the protected zones again.

The spokesperson further says that these “criminal actions” will not go unpunished.

The attacks took place on several military bases in Iraq, the spokesman said. This has caused significant damage to radar systems at some of those locations. There are no known casualties.

Reports are now also coming in of drone attacks on Iraqi military locations. That is what a spokesperson for the Iraqi army told Reuters. It is not yet entirely clear where the drones came from.

The army reports according to Reuters that it has intercepted several missiles.

The army instructs people to move to protected zones and stay there until further notice.

The Israeli air alarm goes off. According to the Israeli army, this is due to a missile fired from Iran.

Trump surprised his own officials with ceasefire The New York Times knows more about how Trump’s proposal for a ceasefire between Israel and Iran came about. A White House insider tells the newspaper that Trump’s own top officials were not even aware.

Instead, the American president spoke with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Iranian authorities. Qatar was also involved in the talks as a mediator.

Around midnight (Dutch time), Trump suddenly announced the ceasefire on his social media platform Truth Social.

The Israeli army has also confirmed the ceasefire, Reuters now reports based on a spokesperson. The spokesman emphasizes that the Israeli armed forces remain alert.

The day after the US attack on Iranian nuclear installations, you sent in hundreds of questions about this American interference. Defense expert Ko Colijn answers your best and most frequently asked questions in this article.

Israel has reopened its airspace, aviation authorities reported this morning. Last night, the country was bombarded with Iranian missiles, which closed the airspace for several hours.

Caretaker Prime Minister Dick Schoof reacts to the news of the ceasefire.

The Israeli Prime Minister will make a statement later today, Reuters writes. Netanyahu says that Israel is grateful to Trump for his “support in defense” and his “contribution to removing the Iranian nuclear threat.”

Netanyahu says Israel has achieved its goal of removing Iranian threats. However, he warns that he will take strong action if Iran harms the ceasefire.

There is confirmation from Israel. According to Reuters, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to the ceasefire.

Nine dead in Israeli attack on Iran At least nine people are said to have been killed early this morning in Israeli attacks on buildings with homes in Northern Iran. That is what the local governor told news agency Tasnim.

The ceasefire would have started, now what? This is what Trump’s proposal says:

In Be’er Sheva, rescuers arrived on the scene after a missile attack reduced a building to rubble. The Israeli television channel Channel 14 reports that two men and a woman were killed. There would also be a fourth person killed.

At least eight people are said to have been injured, two of whom had to be taken to hospital. There would also still be people under the rubble.

Trump now reports on Truth Social that the ceasefire has started. “Please don’t violate it!”, he writes.

Israel reports attacking targets in Iran The Israeli Air Force has attacked missile launch bases in western Iran “in recent hours,” the armed forces report on X. According to the army, those bases would have been used to fire missiles at Israel.

The Israeli army just reported on X that citizens can leave the “protected areas.” That means that the Iranian threat now seems to be over.

Iranian media report that the ceasefire has started after four rounds of attacks by Iranian missiles.

The Israeli army just warned of yet another Iranian attack. That warning was given at 6:13 AM, so after the ceasefire proposed by Trump should have started.

Shortly before 6:00 AM, the Israeli army reported on X that the air alarm had gone off again in northern Israel, after Iran allegedly fired missiles again. Reuters reports that there have been five reports of Iranian missile attacks since Trump announced the ceasefire.

For those who just woke up, this is what you missed last night:

Three dead in Iranian attacks on Israel The Israeli army has reported three waves of Iranian missile attacks last night. Witnesses in Tel Aviv and Be’er Sheva told Reuters that they heard explosions. In Be’er Sheva, three people were killed, Israeli authorities report.
Whether this has consequences for the ceasefire announced by Trump is not clear.

Trump does not seem to doubt his earlier claim: he emphasizes his earlier ‘congratulations to the world’ again on his social network Truth Social.

To make it even more complicated, there are now not only conflicting reports about a possible ceasefire, but also about the Iranian attacks just reported by Israel.

The Israeli army first spoke about it shortly after 4:00 AM (Dutch time), after which it announced at 4:30 AM according to Reuters that Israelis could come out of their bomb shelters again because the threat would be over. But four minutes later, the army according to the news agency already announced that it had “signaled and repelled a new series of missile attacks from Iran towards Israel.” Iran has said nothing about this.

In theory, that could still be within Trump’s ceasefire story: he reported around midnight that Iran would start the ceasefire around 6:00 AM. But the signals so far are not very hopeful.

Israel has still not confirmed or denied the ceasefire announced by Trump. The Israeli army now does say that Iranian missiles were fired towards Israel “recently”. There is no confirmation of that yet.

Iran denies the ceasefire There is no ceasefire agreement at all, says Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on X. “At this moment there is no ‘agreement’ for any ceasefire whatsoever.”

Araqchi does leave the door ajar: “If Israel stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people by 4:00 AM Iranian time at the latest, then we do not intend to continue with our counterattacks afterwards,” he writes.

That was then at 3:00 AM (Dutch time). Since then, there have been no known Israeli attacks, but according to Araqchi “the final decision on stopping our military operation will follow later.”

Ceasefire still not confirmed The state of affairs: almost 2.5 hours have now passed since Trump announced the ceasefire, but Israel and Iran have still not officially reacted. There was only the aforementioned high Iranian official who said that it was correct, but that is not yet an official confirmation. And a White House employee is said to have said that Israel agrees as long as Iran stops attacking first, but that claim is of course also not yet an official green light.

According to Trump, the first phase of the ceasefire will start around 6:00 AM (Dutch) time, when Iran stops attacking. Twelve hours later, Israel must also lay down its arms. After another twelve hours, so the war should come to an “official end,” the president claims. We’ll see.

According to a senior Iranian official, it is correct that Iran agrees to a ceasefire with Israel. The ceasefire would have been achieved with mediation by Qatar, the source tells Reuters.

After Trump’s message, the Israeli army shared another evacuation call on X for residents in various areas in the Iranian capital Tehran.

The message that Trump shared on Truth Social.

According to Trump, Iran and Israel agree to a ceasefire According to Donald Trump, Iran and Israel have agreed to a ceasefire tonight. The ceasefire would start around 6:00 AM (Dutch time), when Israel and Iran have completed their ongoing missions. It seems that Iran would then stop its attacks first and that Israel would also stop twelve hours later. But neither of those two governments confirms Trump’s message so far.
