Tens of thousands of travelers have submitted a form to NS to get their travel expenses reimbursed after the strikes on Friday and Tuesday. Travelers can declare a maximum of 25 euros in expenses online if they cannot use the train.
A spokesperson for the train transport company confirms after reporting by the AD that tens of thousands of applications have been submitted.
NS asks for proof of payment for the costs of alternative transport, such as the bus or a taxi. If travelers have traveled with their own car, they can declare 23 cents per kilometer, also with a maximum of 25 euros.
The company is trying to refund the amounts as quickly as possible, but NS cannot say exactly when that will happen. Several thousand people have also requested money back for a train ticket. Those numbers are a lot smaller, because most people travel with a subscription or an public transport chip card.
The strikes took place because NS cannot agree with the unions on the wage increases. NS does not want to go higher than 2.55 percent, but FNV, CNV and VVMC find this too little because of the high inflation of recent years.
The planned strike on Thursday will not go ahead, but NS advises travelers to take into account an adjusted timetable and busy trains.
