Talpa and publisher De Fontein are in negotiations for a restart of the hit series Baantjer. This was confirmed by writer Peter Römer on Tuesday after he made statements about it on the radio program MISCHA.
“The intention for a new series has been expressed and negotiations are underway,” says Römer, who took over the series after the death of the original writer Appie Baantjer. “There are many snags to the restart. But Gooische Vrouwen and Medisch Centrum West have shown that it is possible.”
According to Römer, the publisher is very careful with the successful brand. “The book series has been rebuilt after a dip due to Appie’s death. It is an important brand.”
As far as Römer is concerned, no one from the original cast will return. His father Piet Römer, who played detective De Cock in the old series, died in 2012.
Baantjer wrote dozens of books about detective De Cock between 1963 and 2010. RTL made more than 120 episodes about the Amsterdam detective between 1995 and 2006. Millions of people watched the series every week. In 1997 the series won the Golden Televizier Ring.
