Suzan & Freek thank their fans on Instagram for the “unending wave of love and support” they have felt this week. The duo announced on Tuesday that Freek has a terminal illness.
“We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the lovely messages, candles and gestures,” they write. “Where we will always hold on to each other, we have felt that you are doing that with us too. Love is everything.”
Suzan & Freek, known for hits like Als Het Avond Is and Goud, look back “with a smile and a tear” on the concerts of the past weekend. “How great it was, we said laughing in the car back home on Sunday. And great it was!”
It was announced on Tuesday that 32-year-old Freek has a terminal illness. He has metastatic lung cancer and it is unclear how long he has left to live. In the same message, Suzan & Freek announced that they are expecting their first child.
The couple announced that they would stop performing immediately. The duo is in the middle of a six-day concert series in the Ziggo Dome. The three shows that were still planned will no longer take place.
