Cristiano Ronaldo led Portugal to the Nations League final on Wednesday. The star player scored the winning goal in the 1-2 semi-final victory against Germany in Munich.
After a poor first half, Florian Wirtz opened the scoring for Germany shortly after halftime. The forward, who is attracting interest from Liverpool, headed in after a one-two with Joshua Kimmich.
Fifteen minutes later, Flavio Conceição equalized in brilliant fashion. The former Ajax player, who had only been on the field for five minutes, curled the ball from about 20 meters into the left corner.
Ronaldo gave his country the lead five minutes later. The forty-year-old attacker tapped in from close range from a cross from Nuno Mendes and scored his 137th international goal.
Karim Adeyemi hit the post for Germany in the final phase, but the home team could not force extra time. On the other side, goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen prevented the 1-3 with superb saves from shots by Diogo Jota and Conceição.
Portugal will face Spain or France in the final on Sunday. The two countries will meet on Thursday in the other semi-final. The Spaniards eliminated the Netherlands in the quarter-finals.
The Portuguese are in the Nations League final for the second time. In 2019, they also reached the final during the first edition. In that final, the Southern Europeans were too strong for Oranje with 1-0.
