Novak Djokovic has reached the semi-finals of Roland Garros for the thirteenth time in his career on Wednesday. The Serbian tennis legend won against Alexander Zverev on the gravel in Paris. His next opponent is Jannik Sinner.
The 38-year-old Djokovic (ATP-6) had a rough start on Court Philippe-Chatrier against the ten-year-younger Zverev (ATP-3). He immediately surrendered his service game to the German, who then won the first set.
After that, Djokovic got better into his game. Zverev occasionally sent him from pillar to post, but the Serbian running wonder had an answer to almost everything. Djokovic meanwhile bombarded his opponent with deadly dropshots.
Apart from that first game of the match, Djokovic did not surrender his service once. Meanwhile, the 24-time Grand Slam winner gained more and more grip on Zverev’s serve. After more than three hours of tennis, the scoreboard showed 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 and 6-4.
Djokovic has thus qualified for the last four of Roland Garros for the thirteenth time. He won the tournament three times (2016, 2021 and 2023). Zverev did not reach the semi-finals in Paris for the first time since 2020. He is still waiting for his first Grand Slam victory.
Djokovic will face Sinner in the semi-finals on Friday. The Italian world number one swept the floor with Alexander Bublik earlier in the day: 6-1, 7-5 and 6-0. The other semi-final is between defending champion Carlos Alcaraz and Lorenzo Musetti.
