Robbie Williams komt dit najaar met een nieuw album, getiteld Britpop. Dat heeft de Britse zanger aangekondigd op sociale media. Williams heeft metRocket de eerste single van het album uitgebracht. Daarnaast komt hij met een bijbehorende tour.
Voor het nummer Rocket werkte de 51-jarige Williams samen met gitarist Tony Iommi van de metalband Black Sabbath. Rocket is de eerste track die verschijnt van het aankomende album.
Volgens Williams is Britpop geïnspireerd op de periode na zijn vertrek uit Take That in 1995. “Ik wilde het album maken dat ik toen had willen schrijven en uitbrengen”, zegt hij. “Het was het hoogtepunt van de britpop en een gouden tijd voor Britse muziek.”
De zanger werkte voor het album samen met artiesten die hij bewondert. “Het is rauw, er zitten meer gitaren in en het is nog meer uptempo en meeslepender dan mijn eerdere werk”, zegt Williams. Hij laat weten “ontzettend trots” te zijn op het resultaat. “Ik kan niet wachten tot de fans dit album horen.”
Het is nog niet duidelijk of Williams met deze nieuwe tour ook naar Nederland komt. Wel staat de zanger volgende maand in de Johan Cruijff ArenA
Robbie Williams is releasing a new album this fall, titled Britpop. The British singer announced this on social media. Williams has released the first single from the album, Rocket. In addition, he is going on an accompanying tour.
For the song Rocket, the 51-year-old Williams collaborated with guitarist Tony Iommi of the metal band Black Sabbath. Rocket is the first track to be released from the upcoming album.
According to Williams, Britpop is inspired by the period after his departure from Take That in 1995. “I wanted to make the album that I had wanted to write and release then,” he says. “It was the height of Britpop and a golden age for British music.”
The singer worked with artists he admires for the album. “It’s raw, there are more guitars in it, and it’s even more uptempo and engaging than my previous work,” says Williams. He says he is “incredibly proud” of the result. “I can’t wait for the fans to hear this album.”
It is not yet clear whether Williams will come to the Netherlands with this new tour. However, the singer will be in the Johan Cruijff ArenA next month.
