The Dutch relay swimmers did not start in the 4×100 meter medley at the World Championships in Singapore on Sunday on doctor’s advice. The men’s team qualified for the final with a national record.
It is unclear what the medical reason is why the Dutch women did not start. Last year, the women’s team surprisingly won the world title in Doha.
The men’s team did compete and qualified for the World Cup final. Kai van Westering, Caspar Corbeau, Nyls Korstanje and Sean Niewold swam the fifth time in the semi-finals: 3.31.07.
The quartet clocked a Dutch record with that. The old national top time (3.31.23) dated from the World Cup in Doha a year and a half ago.
Thomas Jansen missed out on a final spot in the 400 meter medley. The 24-year-old swimmer came in 4.14.19 to eleventh place. Only the best eight swimmers qualified for the final.
The men’s relay final is Sunday around 2:30 PM (Dutch time). Around 1:15 PM, Milou van Wijk will compete in the final of the 50 meter freestyle.
