Rail problems at Schiphol today no sabotage, but 'annoying malfunction'

The problems on the track near Schiphol on Wednesday are not the result of sabotage. There is a “troublesome, technical malfunction,” reports ProRail. There is also no connection with Tuesday’s malfunction on the track at the airport.

According to ProRail, it concerns a broken connection element. “This is a component in the track and will be replaced as soon as possible,” the rail manager writes. After that, train traffic can resume.

ProRail emphasizes that Wednesday’s problem is “not related” to Tuesday’s malfunction around Schiphol.

On Tuesday, no trains could run from Utrecht and Amsterdam to Schiphol all day. That was the result of a fire in the power cables near Schiphol.

The police said they are “explicitly” taking into account that it may be sabotage. Outgoing Minister David van Weel (Justice and Security) also said at the NATO summit that he does not rule out sabotage.

On Wednesday morning, there are no updates in the case, a police spokesperson told news agency ANP.
