Luis Enrique has expressed his dissatisfaction with the conditions at the Club World Cup in the United States on Monday. The coach of Paris Saint-Germain finds the quality of the pitches particularly substandard.
Enrique voiced his criticism after the 0-2 victory over Seattle Sounders. “The ball bounces like a hopping rabbit,” he fumed at a press conference. “Today that was visible again.”
“They are used to playing on artificial turf here. Now there are ordinary grass fields that have to be watered by hand. They did that again today during halftime, but after ten minutes the field was already dry again.”
“For our way of playing, that is a problem. We are not using this as an excuse. That’s why I’m saying this even after we won. But it is a problem. You simply cannot play at the level you want.”
“FIFA will have to do something about it. We must not only talk about the match fields, but also about the training fields. At least if we want this to become the biggest competition in the world.”
Thanks to the victory over Seattle Sounders, PSG goes to the knockout stage as group winner. There, Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami will be the opponent on Sunday evening.
