Province reports against man who was stuck for twelve hours in Zeelandbrug

The province of Zeeland is filing a police report against a man who was locked inside the Zeeland Bridge for twelve hours last week. The province emphasizes that it is forbidden to enter the inside of the bridge without permission.

The man entered the bridge through a door, which then locked behind him. After twelve hours, the intruder was freed by workmen. The man told the police that he had entered the structure out of curiosity.

That is prohibited, says a provincial spokesperson after reporting by Omroep Zeeland to press agency ANP. The police are investigating the incident and the motives of the man.

There are all kinds of technical installations and cables in the bridge, the spokesperson explains. “You are not allowed to enter there without guidance. It is still a mystery to us how this man got in. As far as we know, this has never happened before.”

The 5-kilometer-long bridge connects the Zeeland islands of Schouwen-Duivenland and Noord-Beveland.
