Oranjespits Beerensteyn skips swinging competition and focuses on European Championships

Lineth Beerensteyn is focusing on the opening match of the Orange Lionesses at the European Championship next month as she recovers from a muscle injury. The 28-year-old forward will almost certainly miss the send-off match against Finland next week.

Beerensteyn was injured at her club VfL Wolfsburg in early April and has been sidelined ever since. She missed the Orange Lionesses’ international matches against Scotland and Germany last month and has not played for her club either.

Beerensteyn reported ‘normally’ to Zeist this week for the Orange Lionesses’ European Championship preparations, but she did not appear on the training field during the first training session on Thursday. She also did not train on Friday morning, but worked on an individual program in the gym.

The forward said at a press conference at the KNVB Campus in Zeist on Friday morning that she is focusing on the Orange Lionesses’ first European Championship match on July 5. This means that she will miss the send-off match against Finland on June 26.

“It’s going as planned,” Beerensteyn said about her recovery. “I’m happy to see that there is progress. Worries? No, I don’t have any. I’m a chill person. I’m very relaxed about it. There is always a scenario that I won’t make it, but I’m not concerned with that.”

Apart from Beerensteyn, all 25 players were on the field. Orange is completing a three-day training camp in Zeist. The final European Championship selection will be announced this weekend.
