An American federal judge has an emergency request from R. Kelly to be placed under house arrest, report American media such as TMZ and Variety . The singer has been trying to prove for months that he is in danger in prison.
The judge says that Kelly has submitted his request to a court who is legally not allowed to judge this. “Kelly has not demonstrated a legal basis for the jurisdiction of this court,” says the opinion. “That is why his emergency request is rejected.”
“We are not surprised by this statement, since we knew that technical jurisdiction would be a challenge under these circumstances,” responds one of the lawyers of the 58-year-old R&B singer. He submitted the request because, according to him, his client is the target of a murder plan of prison employees.
Earlier this month, Kelly was urgently admitted to the hospital, after he, according to his lawyer, received an overdose of medication. Kelly spent two days in the hospital to recover. His lawyers state that the prison staff “gave him a quantity of medicines that could have been deadly”.
One of his lawyers stated earlier that Kelly was “punished” since he submitted the request for temporary release. “Where he is sleeping now, there are constant spiders.”
Kelly was sentenced in 2022 to a prison sentence of thirty years after he was found guilty of, among other things, sexual abuse. Later, twenty years in prison was added because of extortion and making images of child abuse.
