Orange must stop first European training in Switzerland due to thunderstorms

The first training session of the Dutch national team in Switzerland was interrupted on Tuesday. Coach Andries Jonker’s team started training in Thun at 6:30 PM, but quickly moved indoors.

The players were warming up when a lightning flash suddenly appeared. The group, along with coach Andries Jonker, ran towards the dugout. It was then decided to train in the gym. The Dutch team may return to the field later this evening.

The Dutch national team arrived earlier in the day in Spiez, where the team is staying at the Belvédère Hotel. Due to the travel day, the Dutch team was already scheduled to complete part of the training in the gym.

Lineth Beerensteyn participated in the warm-up round, joining the group for the first time. The 114-time international had been working on an individual program since the start of the preparation (June 19). Beerensteyn played her last match at the end of April.

Coach Andries Jonker said last week that Beerensteyn is “absolutely convinced” that she will make the European Championship. Jonker can make one change to his selection up to 24 hours before the first match, provided there is a medical reason. Shanice van de Sanden has traveled to Switzerland as a reserve.

The Dutch team will play their first group match against Wales in Lucerne on Saturday. Jonker’s team will play against England next Wednesday in Zurich and will conclude the group stage on July 13 in Basel, with a match against France.
