Danny Noppert and Gian van Veen have reached the semi-finals of the World Cup of Darts on Sunday. The Dutch duo defeated the Czechs Karel Sedlácek and Petr Krivka with 8-2.
Noppert and Van Veen were broken in the first set, but then got up to speed. The Dutch quickly ran out to 4-1 and then granted the Czechs one more leg.
Before the quarter-finals, Noppert and Van Veen had not lost a leg during this tournament. They won the group matches against Italy and Hungary with 4-0 and steamrolled Scotland in the eighth final: 8-0.
In the semi-finals, Noppert and Van Veen will face Wales later in the day, represented by Jonny Clayton and Gerwyn Price. The Welshmen defeated Hong Kong in the quarter-finals with 8-4.
Germany and Northern Ireland are in the other semi-final against each other. The Germans Martin Schindler and Ricardo Pietreczko caused a stunt on Saturday by eliminating the English top favorites Luke Littler and Luke Humphries.
The Netherlands has won the World Cup four times. The last time this happened was in 2018. Then Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld appeared at the oche. Both players are not present this year. ‘Mighty Mike’ announced at an early stage that he would skip the World Cup and ‘Barney’ has fallen too far in the rankings.
