Jan Veerman, the first singer of the Volendam band BZN, passed away on Saturday at the age of 76. This is reported by BZN Online, the official website of the group.
Veerman was a member of BZN from 1965 to 1974, when the group still made rock songs. His nickname was Jan Kies.
He was asked by Jan Tuijp, Cees Tol, Evert Woestenburg and Gerrit Woestenburg. The singer sang on BZN songs such as Waiting For You, Everyday I Have To Cry and Bad Bad Woman.
Veerman left the band when the music style of BZN changed to the so-called ‘palingsound’. Jan Keizer took over his role and Veerman took up his old work as a crane operator again.
In 1997, Veerman, together with Cees and Thomas Tol, Jaap Sombroek and Evert Woestenburg, founded the BZN’66 Reunion Band. They sang songs from the early years of BZN. Anny Schilder participated in various performances.
Veerman will be farewelled in private, according to the mourning card.
