Memphis Depay scored for Corinthians for the second match in a row on Wednesday evening. The Dutch international crowned himself match-winner in the first leg of the eighth final of the Brazilian Cup against Palmeiras (1-0).
Memphis scored the only goal with a header fifteen minutes before time. In the first half, Corinthians was awarded a penalty after a foul on Memphis, but his teammate Yuri Alberto missed the penalty.
Due to the victory, Corinthians has a good starting position for the return match. The club from São Paulo first plays a league match with Fortaleza (Sunday) and will meet city rival Palmeiras again next Thursday.
Memphis was also of value last Saturday in the league match against reigning champion Botafogo. The striker equalized just before time (1-1) by shooting the ball hard into the ropes.
In just over a month, Memphis will probably be in action again for the Dutch national team. Ronald Koeman’s team will play World Cup qualifying matches against Poland and Lithuania at the beginning of September.
