Man who was run over by star chef Nick Bril can go home after almost 1.5 years

The man who was hit by star chef Nick Bril in early 2024 can continue his rehabilitation at home. The former intern of restaurant The Jane in Antwerp will soon return home, Belgian media report.

The victim had only worked at the restaurant for a few weeks when he was run over in the parking lot. The collision occurred after Bril had left a New Year’s party.

The man was critically injured and lost both legs. He was in the hospital for months and had been staying in a rehabilitation center since June last year.

Bril had 1.67 per mille of alcohol in his blood at the time of the collision. In Belgium, you are not allowed to drive with more than 0.5 per mille. According to the Belgian Public Prosecutor’s Office, the chef tried to drive away after the incident and only later informed the emergency services that he had run over someone.

A criminal case and a civil procedure for damages are currently pending against Bril. It is not yet known whether the victim, who is from the British Channel Island of Jersey, will be present at the legal proceedings.
