Former footballer Beugelsdijk gets access to how much money he has gambled

Former professional footballer Tom Beugelsdijk has been granted access to his gambling losses just before his summary proceedings against gambling provider Unibet. The former ADO Den Haag defender was trying to obtain this data through the court in order to claim back an estimated 100,000 euros.

Unibet initially did not intend to provide an overview, which led Beugelsdijk to go to court. At the beginning of the hearing on Friday morning, it turned out that the company had released the data on Thursday evening.

This eliminated the original necessity for the summary proceedings. However, Beugelsdijk’s lawyer, Benzi Loonstein, was not pleased with the late timing of the delivery. They had previously requested the data several times without Unibet providing it. Therefore, Loonstein demands that the gambling company reimburse the 20,000 euros in attorney fees.

Beugelsdijk does not yet know what his next step will be now that he has access to his transaction data. “We still need to talk about that.”

Unibet also faces other lawsuits regarding gambling data. For example, claim organization Gokverlies is going back to court on behalf of thousands of gamblers. This also involves retrieving playing data.

This concerns data from before 2021. During that period, online gambling was still illegal in the Netherlands. But several providers, including Unibet, were already active in our country.

Players who lost money in those years at gambling sites active in the Netherlands may be able to get it back. This is a result of earlier court rulings in which players were proven right. Gambling companies then had to repay tons of gambled money.
