The man who drove his car into a crowd in Los Angeles on Saturday is suspected of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. 37 people were injured in the collision. Eight of them are in critical condition.
He is suspected of 37 counts of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. The prosecutors are referring to the car. If convicted, he could face a life sentence. Nothing is yet known about his motive.
The incident took place on Santa Monica Boulevard, a major thoroughfare in the metropolis, around 2:00 a.m. (local time) on the night from Friday to Saturday. “It’s a miracle no one was killed,” the Los Angeles police chief said at a press conference Wednesday.
The group of people were queuing for a popular nightclub. Police investigators confirm to ABC News that the suspect was kicked out of the club earlier that evening. After the car came to a stop, bystanders pulled the driver out of the car and assaulted him. One of them shot the suspect in his lower back and then fled. The shooter is still at large.
According to the police, the driver has a violent history. At the time of the collision, he was out on bail awaiting trial on domestic violence charges.
