Milan heeft door de punten bij de tussensprint zijn voorsprong op Pogacar in het puntenklassement vergroot.

Tussensprint – In het peloton wordt er ook gesprint om de punten. Groenetruidrager Milan gaat als eerste over de streep en pakt elf punten, gevolgd door Girmay en Turgis.
Tussensprint – De kopgroep sprint om de punten. Abrahamsen gaat als eerste over de streep. Nu is het de beurt aan het peloton.
Nog 113 km – Een valpartij in het peloton. Alleen Louis Barré gaat naar de grond.
Nog 117 km – Er is nog 5 kilometer te gaan tot de tussensprint. Soudal Quick-Step en Lidl-Trek houden het tempo in het peloton hoog.
In finishplaats Valence is het niet droog. Hopelijk blijft iedereen overeind bij een (mogelijke) massasprint.
Nog 126 km – De sprintersploegen maken zich steeds meer klaar voor de tussensprint, die over minder dan 15 kilometer plaatsvindt. De voorsprong van de kopgroep is iets geslonken naar 2 minuten en 25 seconden.
Gaan deze vier avonturiers vandaag standhouden tegen de sprintersploegen?
Nog 136 km – Soudal Quick-Step en Lidl-Trek voeren het tempo van het peloton aan. De ploegen mikken op een dagzege van Tim Merlier (Soudal Quick-Step) en Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek). De voorsprong van de kopgroep blijft zo’n 2 minuten en 50 seconden. Laurance heeft zich terug laten zakken in het peloton.
Nog 140 km – Abrahamsen, Burgaudeau, Pacher en Albanese hebben hun voorsprong op het peloton uitgebreid naar 2 minuten en 45 seconden. Laurance bevindt zich in niemandsland en is ruim een minuut verwijderd van zowel de kopgroep als het peloton.
Nog 147 km – Vooralsnog een klassieke ‘chasse patate’ voor Axel Laurance. De renner van Ineos ligt zo’n 55 seconden achter op de kopgroep, maar heeft anderhalf minuut voorsprong op het peloton.
Nog 153 km – Vier renners hebben de zegen gekregen van het peloton. Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X), Mathieu Burgaudeau (TotalEnergies), Quentin Pacher (Groupama-FDJ) en Vincenzo Albanese (EF) hebben inmiddels 1 minuut voorsprong op het peloton. Meerdere renners proberen nog de oversteek te maken.
Nog vóór de officiële start gaat het bijna mis tussen Van Aert en de auto van de koersdirecteur.
Nog 157 km – Af en toe probeert een renner te demarreren, maar inmiddels bevindt iedereen zich weer in het peloton.
Départ réel! We zijn definitief los, met Iván Romeo van Movistar die als eerste een vluchtpoging waagt.

Groenewegen smells a chance: ‘Hope the fourth time’s the charm’Dylan Groenewegen hasn’t been able to make a splash in this Tour yet. The sprinter hasn’t gotten further than thirteenth place this edition, but expects to perform better today. “I hear a lot of guys around me who are a bit sick, or not completely sharp. But fortunately, I don’t suffer from that,” the Dutchman told the NOS before the start. “There is a lot of chaos in this Tour. So far, we have had three sprints and three times it hasn’t worked out. Yesterday was a successful day for the escapees. Valentin Paret-Peintre was the fastest in the breakaway sprint on Mont Ventoux and booked the first French stage win of this Tour.
The expectation is that the classification riders will save their strength for the upcoming tough stages in this last Tour week. Yellow jersey wearer Tadej Pogacar held his own against Jonas Vingegaard on Mont Ventoux yesterday and even gained two seconds on his Danish competitor. The peloton has fewer major obstacles to overcome the day after the ascent of Mont Ventoux. Escapees are after a win, while this stage is also one of the last chances for sprinters to succeed. The start is at 13:50 and the finish is expected around 17:10. But the arrival time depends, of course, on how hard the riders make the race.
Today is the seventeenth stage from Bollène to Valence of over 160 kilometers on the program! With two fourth-category cols, this ride seems a prey for escapees or sprinters.
