Suzan Lamens did not succeed in reaching the second round of Roland Garros on Tuesday. In her tournament debut, she was no match for the American Ashlyn Krueger: 3-6 and 4-6.
In rainy Paris, it went up and down from the first moment. The 25-year-old Lamens was broken in her first service game but managed to break the four-year-younger Krueger shortly afterward.
Breaks then rained down on court 7, where single Wimbledon winner Conchita Martínez was also one of the spectators. Martínez is the coach of the Russian top talent Mirra Andreeva (WTA-6), who Lamens could have met in the second round.
But it did not come to that for the tennis player from Berkel en Rodenrijs. From a 2-2 score in the first set, Lamens (WTA-69) barely got a look in against Krueger, who is 34 places higher in the world rankings.
After just 1 hour and 15 minutes, Krueger converted her fifth match point. Thus, Lamens’ first Roland Garros appearance is over after one round.
