Jury member in Diddy case replaced due to unclear residence status

The court in New York has dismissed a juror in the rapper Diddy trial. According to Judge Arun Subramanian, the man could not clearly demonstrate where he lives and with whom, reports CNN.

The man, referred to as juror number six, is being replaced by the first alternate on the list. During selection, the man said he lived with his fiancĂ© and baby in the New York neighborhood of The Bronx. But last week during questioning, the juror said he lives in New Jersey and sleeps at his aunt’s in The Bronx four or five nights a week for work.

Diddy’s lawyers wanted to keep juror number six, a 41-year-old black man. His departure would not promote diversity within the jury.

The judge rejected this reasoning on Monday. “It would be inappropriate to consider the juror’s and alternate juror’s race in the proper course of events.”

Diddy is on trial for, among other things, human trafficking and extortion. His trial, in which dozens of witnesses will speak, is expected to end on July 4. After that, a twelve-member jury will decide whether the musician is guilty.
