A Eurocity Direct train from Brussels to Amsterdam broke down just before the border with the Netherlands on Monday morning. The cause is still unknown. The passengers are being transferred to an evacuation train.
The Belgian railway company NMBS reports problems near Brecht. That is approximately 10 kilometers from the Dutch border as the crow flies. According to travelers, it concerns the Eurocity Direct 9527. The train reportedly came to a standstill around 9:00 AM.
A passenger tells Het Laatste Nieuws that the air conditioning in the train was turned off twenty minutes after the breakdown. Train personnel then opened some doors and distributed water. The temperature in northern Belgium is currently around 28 degrees Celsius.
An NMBS spokesperson says that an evacuation train has been deployed to get the stranded passengers to Amsterdam. The number of passengers involved is unknown. NU.nl is still awaiting a response from the company.
