Herman Koch is the sixth and last guest of the new season of Zomergasten . Femke Halsema was already announced on Friday morning. Özcan Akyol, Simon Kuper, Ugur ümit Üngör and Eva Crutzen can also be seen in the program this season.
In the announcement of his episode, Koch says: “My ideal summer guests -public is a happy couple who are quietly sitting on the couch all night and only gently squeezes each other gently during the credits.”
In the 1990s, the writer broke through as one of the creators of the satirical television program Jiskefet , which was broadcast between 1995 and 2005. This year the series was distinguished with the honorary silver nipkow disc. Thanks to his novel The Dinner from 2009, Koch gained great fame. The book grew into a bestseller and was on the bestseller list of The New York Times for weeks.
In 2024, Koch announced that he has been living with metastatic prostate cancer for several years. About that period he wrote the book you will write about it .
Halsema can be seen on Sunday, August 24. “What is inevitably discussed in my evening is political, that can’t be otherwise with my life,” she says. “But I do not intend to break out the Dutch political debate endlessly. I want to look back and look ahead, on the ideals of leadership that have formed me, discussions about democracy, and not to forget the beauty.”
The mayor of Amsterdam has been active in the public domain for decades. For many years, she was the political leader of GroenLinks, published several books and was special appointment with the ‘Politics in the 21st century’ chair. In 2018 she was appointed mayor of Amsterdam, as the first woman in that role.
Akyol wants to show ‘hard and soft voices’
Akyol can be seen in the first episode of Zomergasten . In 2012, he debuts with Eus , a semi -cobiographical book about his youth in a working -class neighborhood in Deventer, as a child of illiterate Turkish parents. He also writes columns for the AD and presents various programs.
“In my fragments I show the hard and soft voices that have shaped me,” says Akyol in a response. “From my artistic heroes to unknown subcultures: I want to show that, despite differences in origin or class, we look more alike than we think.”
Eva Crutzen ‘Shit a thousand colors of dredger’
Kuper writes a popular column every week for the British newspaper Financial Times . The writer lives in Paris, but still has a special bond with the Netherlands. “I am very connected to the Netherlands, I still cheer for the Orange,” he says. “But I am not a Dutchman. I see the country from the outside. From Dutch football to the Dutch elections. I hope to certainly give the viewer with that view.”
Cabaretière, singer and actress Crutzen can put together her favorite television evening on 10 August. “I’m really looking forward to it, even though I shit a thousand colors,” she says.
Crutzen is known for programs such as Promenade , click bite , soil and tropical years . She is also regularly on stage with different performances. “I collect everything that I find beautiful, inspiring, painful and funny. The common denominator is that it is fragments that fall heavy, universal themes, such as mourning, loneliness and outside the boat, in a light way.”
Üngör is the fourth guest in the new Zomergasten season. He wants to put together an evening that is aimed at “everyone who is genuinely curious about the large -scale and violent injustice in the world, but never dared to approach it or really dared to face”.
Üngör is professor of Holocaust and Genocide Studies at the University of Amsterdam and the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies. He was born in northeastern Turkey, but because of the communist beliefs of his father, the family left for the Netherlands shortly after his birth.
The program is presented by the Belgian writer Griet Op de Beeck. Last year every episode it was a former presenter’s turn. Adriaan van Dis would take on that series, but he had to cancel because of his health. Op de Beeck is the eighteenth presenter of Zomergasten .
“I think it is an amazing honor to be able to present a program with such a track record,” said Op de Beeck earlier about the three-hour live program, in which guests from all kinds of fields are allowed to put together their ultimate TV evening. “I believe it was never more important than now: taking the time, entering the depth, looking for the nuance, unraveling complexities, allowing the surprise, the social conversation – even more than the debate – up, broadening our world and creating proximity.”
In the previous series of Zomergasten , actor Pierre Bokma, Member of Parliament Eric van der Burg, photographer Sakir Khader, lawyer Liesbeth Zegveld, writer Sana Valiulina and sinologist and chinacorrespondent Garrie van Pinxteren were guests.
