Head of Dutch Consulate in Japan New Coordinator Terrorism

Marc Kuipers will become the new National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security (NCTV). Kuipers is currently the head of the Dutch consulate in Osaka, Japan.

On January 1st, Kuipers will take over from Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg, who has held the position since 2019.

Before Kuipers started working in Japan in 2021, he was inspector-general at the Labor Inspectorate. Previously, he worked as deputy director-general at intelligence service AIVD and as director of screening authority Justis at the Ministry of Justice.

The NCTV focuses on combating terrorism, cybersecurity, and state threats that could disrupt Dutch society.

Kuipers calls it a privilege to lead the NCTV. He believes national and international cooperation between government, professionals, and society is essential “in this time of hybrid threat.” “I want to fully commit myself to that.”
