Frisian bridge goes up while there are still a car and truck on it

A bridge in Lemmer, Friesland, was raised on Tuesday while traffic was still on it. Drivers were shocked, but no one was injured.

The incident occurred on a bridge over the Prinses Margriet Canal near the lock. A car and a truck were still on the bridge as it opened, Rijkswaterstaat confirms following reports from the Leeuwarder Courant.

Images show the vehicles tilted diagonally on the bridge with their rear ends raised. The barriers intended to stop traffic are down.

The drivers remained unharmed. Rijkswaterstaat says it is relieved that no one was injured. The agency is investigating with the police how the incident could have happened.
